Cut Me Down | Lloyd Cole & The CommotionsArticle from One Two Testing, February 1986 |
Cut Me Down cut up
FOR THE first in my series of fakes I am taking Lloyd Cole and The Commotions, Cut Me Down, their third single from the album Easy Pieces. This fake is, you must remember, a transcription from the record so there may be one or two teeny, weeny differences. However I'll stake my considerable reputation on it's being 99% accurate.
The style of the bond is unusual in that they get a rich texture out of two guitars playing mainly arpeggios, with the piano or keyboards providing a background wash.
The guitar sound is characterised by Neil Clark's 1965 Gibson Firebird which has a very strident bottom end, whilst Lloyd Cole plays a Gibson 330 and a Fender Telecaster.
Blair Cowan uses a Korg CX3 for the Hammond type sounds, a DX7 and the Ensoniq Mirage keyboard, whilst Lawrence Donegan on bass uses a Fender Jazz through a Trace Elliot GP11 rig.
Just to leave you apprentice fakers with a challenge I have left one or two joining phrases out, but on the whole the above should give a fairly detailed idea of how Lloyd Cole and The Commotions put a track like Cut Me Down together.
Please, any comments about whether the diagrams are understandable or not to One Two Testing, (Contact Details), with any requests for future fakes.
