Dear Roland

Article from International Musician & Recording World, June 1985

Alan Townsend, head of product demonstration and tuition for Roland UK, tackles some of the many technical enquiries from the Roland mailbag.

Dog's Dinner

Dear Sirs,

A few months ago I bought a Roland Juno programmable 106 synthesizer. Unfortunately after the recent purchase of a puppy, Yorkshire Terrier, I went downstairs to find the manual in shreds, so do you think you could be so kind as to forward me another one. If it requires payment of any sort I will gladly forward it to you.

John W Miskimin

Dear Sir,

Sorry to hear you've been dogged with problems concerning the Juno 106 manual.

On reading your letter it would seem the problem could have arisen for one of the following reasons.

1. Its a Yorkshire Terrier and you live in Lancashire. (Have you ever heard of War of the Roses?)

2. You forgot to feed the animal.

3. He just doesn't like your playing.

Well, whatever the reason, here's another manual and we won't hound you for payment.

Have a nice day.
Jim St. Pier, Administration Manager

For a few P more

Dear Sir,

I have recently bought a JX3P synthesizer. I am very pleased by its sounds which beforehand were only available on equipment that costs twice as much as the JX.

However, I did not buy the PG200 programmer with it. I understand that the production of the JX3P will cease in July-August. If I decide later to get the programmer seperately what will be my chances of getting a new one. Do Roland consider bringing out another synthesizer in the same price range as the JX3P, or will the Juno 106 be the only synthesizer in the £1000 range.

Graham Wathington

Dear Graham,

Although the JX3P has been discontinued there will be no problem in supplying a PG200 programmer as this is also compatible with the GR700 guitar synthesizer and Planet S synthesizer module.

The new Roland JX8P synthesizer offers many more facilities than the JX3P at only a little extra cost. We enclose a leaflet.

Yours sincerely, A.J. Townsend

What's in a Name?

Dear Sir,

Last week I purchased my first polyphonic synthesizer and decided on the Juno 106.

I find it hard to fault the machine as the sounds it is capable of are quite remarkable. Thus I commend you on an excellent product. It would be a help to play the factory sounds, however, if I knew what they were supposed to be. Could you please, therefore, send me a list of names for the 128 factory sounds.

Yours sincerely, Raphael Samad

Dear Raphael,

I am pleased that you chose the Juno 106 as your first polyphonic synthesizer.

I enclose a list of the sound names used in the factory presets. Yours sincerely, A.J. Townsend
