This new low cost MIDI to CV/Gate converter can generate control voltages for the 'one volt per octave' (logarithmic) or so-called 'volts per hertz' (linear) systems. The gate output can be set to five volts positive, ten volts positive or S-trig.
High resolution 16-bit conversion allows accurate pitch across the full 128 note MIDI range with smooth modulation, pitchbend and portamento. The CV output also has a wide bipolar voltage swing, and a tuning preset is provided. MIDI reception can be set to any channel using the front panel control knob. The mains supply is built-in.

This new sampler from Roland is being aimed at the DJ market and is ideally suited to realtime remix work. The MS1 uses a Roland-developed compression algorithm, to deliver full CD quality 16 bit D/A and A/D sampling capability.
The user can select from four different sampling qualities, referred to as SG (Super Grade) 44.1kHz, HG (High Grade) 32kHz, ST (Standard) 22.05kHz and LP (Long Play) 16kHz. In high-grade mode, an unexpanded MS1 can sample for approximately 22 seconds.
The MS1 uses flash ROM cards to save samples, to expand its memory and act as cheap back-up and storage. It has eight pads for sample playback, as well as MIDI in and out for sequencing, and can hold up to 24 samples in its internal memory (16 for record and playback and eight for playback only), and a further 24 samples as well as 16 backup files on an external memory card.
The built-in flash ROM memory retains data even after the power is switched off, to avoid unnecessary loss of samples. A one-track sequencer function allows real-time recording and playback using the pads. The unit also offers stereo ins and outs, can play four samples simultaneously, and can run on battery power for up to 16 hours of continuous use.

The big brother of the MS1, the JS30 is a sampling workstation with a more powerful sequencer (four tracks as opposed to one) than that of the MS1. It has 13 trigger pads, and allows eight samples to be played simultaneously.
It has a SCSI connector for access to CD ROM sample libraries, and can read both Roland and Akai CD ROMs. The JS30's parameters and wave form data can be saved together as audio data on ordinary cassette tapes.
To aid in real-time performance, the JS30 has a built-in (Beat Per Measure) adjust function, thus allowing tempos from different samples to be easily matched and quickly adjusted. Additionally, a tempo can be tapped in as a master template, to override a new sampled phrase, even when its tempo is unknown.
The RPS (Real-time Phrase Sequence) function allows the JS30 to record the playback order of multiple samples as a phrase. Up to four phrases can be stored internally, and data can also be synched to MIDI clock. All the sample data can be loaded while you play/perform in real-time.
The JS30 uses the same sampler chip as the Roland S750, and includes one Megabyte of internal memory. This allows it to sample up to 22.5 seconds at 44.1kHz, which can be doubled to 45 seconds at 22.05kHz without significant sound quality deterioration, using the x2 function. The unit can be expanded to a maximum of four Megabytes of internal RAM.

The RFX Shockwave is a channel switching preamp and speaker simulator, with two drive and two output level controls as well as 'edge' and presence controls. Another feature is a three-position speaker simulator switch, for 10", 12" and 12" open back speaker cabinets. The RFX Solo EQ is an 8-band equalizer with two foot switchable volume controls, and a bypass switch for selecting solo and rhythm sounds.
The RFX Twin Spin Chorus features a low noise chorus effect with a speed selector switch, and is the pedal equivalent of the RFX 147 Rotorhorn rack unit. By pressing the speed switch, it speeds up or slows down like a rotating loudspeaker while the stereo outputs give 'room filling' stereo presence.

The unit is 16 bit and incorporates true stereo, MIDI control preset operation plus effect programmability. 99 effects programs are preset, but can be edited via simple front-panel controls.
The front panel uses rotary controls, 'one-touch' program selection, and an LED indicator next to each parameter knob to show when its physical position matches the actual parameter value. Wet/dry mix balance and input level controls are also provided, along with left and right peak level LEDs.

Exclusively Analogue introduce a totally analogue synthesizer module. Custom built, this module includes three voltage-controlled Oscillators, two multi-mode voltage controlled filters, one 24 db/octave low pass voltage controlled filter, two envelope generators, one envelope shaper, two voltage controlled amplifiers, one voltage controlled low frequency oscillator, one sample and hold (for random voltage outputs), one pulse width modulation low frequency oscillator, one noise source, and one external input.
The Aviator has been pre-patched in the classic analogue synth format, so all that is required is a CV and Gate input. The 44 mini-jack sockets can be used to create some non-standard routings of both signals and control voltages. Using these sockets it is possible to use VCO3, VCF2, EG2, and VCA2 as an independent synthesizer, and thus the Aviator can become two synthesizers.
