Wings Tour USA | Wings

What's that man holding in his hand?

Publisher: Paper Tiger (A Dragon's World Limited Imprint)
Photographs: Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis
Graphics & Illustration: George Hardie
Book Design: Hipgnosis
Price: £3.25 (Softback)

ANY piece of design with which Hipgnosis has been involved (be it record sleeves or books), can only be regarded as a visual experience in graphics, presentation and content.

The latest addition to their successes, as the title informs us, is a travelogue with a difference of the highly acclaimed 'Wings over America' tour. Not a load of snappies of the band in action (well, maybe a dozen or more), but a candid picture gallery of people, places and events with a theme of eight sections each relating to a different time of day. Riding horses at 6 'o'clock on 3rd June in Chicago in contrast to going over a sound check at 6 'o'clock on 14th June in San Francisco.

All the photographs are reproduced in glorious black and white with the sections' title pages in full colour, tastefully used I might add. Having looked over this book a few times, the main impressions are of the vastness of the tour, the distance travelled, the people it affected and the planning behind it. This book is a must for Wings fans and of general interest to most people.
