While their top end radio systems have been touring the globe with Rod Stewart and Peter Gabriel, among others, AKG have developed a new system that almost all gigging musicians can afford. The WMS 50 is a true diversity system and comes in three packages; Vocal set, Presenter Set and Guitar Set. The Vocal Set uses the capsule from AKG's Tri-Power D3700 mic, and gives an up-front sound that'll cut through any band mix. The Guitar Set will interface with a wide range of pickups and will also work with the AKG Micro-Mic range allowing sax players using the AKG C409 and keyboardists/drummers can use it with AKG C4W headset mic. All WMS 50 systems have full DTI approval, excellent channel seperation, true diversity reception, and come in an ABS carrying case.

This new boundary effect condenser microphone is extremely low in profile with a small footprint, making it useful for applications where it is essential that a microphone should be unobtrusive.

Its polar pattern is semi-cardioid, so sound from the rear of the microphone is excluded, making it useful for theatre work, or other situations where multiple mics are required.

Featuring a flat frequency response between 65 and 18000 Hz, the mic copes with higher gain-before-feedback than the average boundary effect microphone. A low-cut filter is provided on the separate pre-amplifier/adaptor, to eliminate low frequency rumble and unwanted surface noise. Power requirement is 12-48 volt phantom power, and the mic is available in black or white finish.

These two new units from Sennheiser are designed to work together on VHF frequencies. The SK 50 is a slimline body pack transmitter, operable on up to 16 switchable channels, within a 24 mHz window, and providing an PF output of 50mW. Power is either from exchangeable accumulator packs or 2 or 3 AA cell battery packs – the three cell giving an operating time of nine hours.

The EM 1046 is a programmable eight-channel diversity receiver, based around a system of expandable, microprocessor-controlled receiver modules. All receiver channels are programmable to a large number of different frequencies within a 24 mHz window on-site.

The front panel display shows the selected receiver frequencies, with LEDs indicating the receiver field strength and audio level. On-line remote monitoring and control of receiver system parameters is available, with Sennheiser's Computer Display software. Scene memories can be setup and recalled, storing different parameter configurations of the receiver system.

This new machine is basically an upgraded version of the DLS 223 that has been fitted with new rotors. The unit also includes some new presets. The main controls for the different rotor sounds are accessed directly, using a keypad and rotary incremental encoders. Any changes made can be saved.

In option mode, all 42 rotor program parameters can be edited and stored. The MIDI interface also allows control of 42 parameters. MIDI learn feature is also included for complex MIDI applications, without the need to study manuals.
