A 20/20 Vision

Litestructures are introducing their latest product the Litedeck 20/20 aluminium staging system. Recently seen at the Clothes Show Live and on tour with Boyzone, Litedeck 20/20 brings new innovation, combined with Litestructures distinctive style. It combines lightweight and ease of portability with 'immense' strength. Using an all aluminium frame, with the familiar Litestructures lacing the decks, the Litedeck offers long life expectancy with protection against delamination. This should make the system ideal for touring companies and permanent installations alike.

The Litedeck 20/20 is a complete system, which includes handrails and staircases. Available in square, rectangle, quadrant, and triangle sections, there are plenty of design layouts available. The stage sections are compatible with Litestructures Astralite and Quatralite legs, giving the new system the ability to be built on multilevels.

Killer lighting at Gravesend

The 450-seat Woodville Hall in Gravesend, Kent, has become a staple venue on the concert and theatre touring since it opened its doors in 1961. For almost a decade, it has been running on the same sound and lighting technology. When the software on the lighting desk failed one too many times midway through a show, Technical Manager Paul Whitehead decided that it was time to replace it along with the sound desk. "It was left to me to specify the new lighting desk and I got three quotes in from three separate companies." said Paul. "We told them we had 72 available channels in the building, and what we were planning over the next five years — such as the introduction of colour scrollers and pan and tilt special effects alongside the present moving lighting — and they recommended a Ventura."

CPL light up the Brits

Concert Production Lighting (CPL) has enjoyed success again having completed the entire stage and auditorium lighting for the Brit Awards. The project involved supplying the conventional lighting and Vari Lites, which adorned the spectacular show, bringing the performances to life and helping to create the electric atmosphere that the Brits has become famous for. CPL also had the job of welcoming both the famous and public visitors, as they were also responsible for the front-of-house exterior lighting, as well as the sky tracker search lights.

The installation took an entire week due to the huge scale of the project and the fact that once the television cameras and performers became involved, everything became more elaborate.

Licence to DLL

Artistic Licence, specialists in the design and supply of control equipment for the entertainment and communications industries, are introducing a new Windows software developed to extend the applications associated with the DMX Dongle.

The new suite of Windows software developed by Artistic Licence's Managing Director, Wayne Howell, is so new that it is simply referred to as 'Kevin' currently. Not really, it's in fact only known as 'DLL'.

DLL enables users of the DMX Dongle to work using Windows applications, while the second product in the suite, DMX Data Analyser, gives a full window of received DMX data display. This means that, for example, when the output of a lighting desk is being calibrated, a visual check of all the levels enables swift adjustment according to requirements. The third and final piece of updated software completes the suite and indeed links the light sound industries via a PC. The MIDI Analyser is useful for those with a Sound Blaster card connected to their PC as it enables the display of the MIDI data on screen in a readable format. Wayne Howell explains: "While the MIDI Analyser is not directly related to lighting products, it is a logical tool to have in the portfolio of software as it is, in fact, increasingly used for AV automation".
