Re:Mix

mixed-mode CD tracklist

Article from The Mix, February 1995

The words behind the sounds on this month's CD and CD-ROM

About re:mix

RE:MIX combines normal CD audio with software readable by a computer's or sampler's CD-ROM drive. The software will not harm your CD player, but it may make an unpleasant sound. So if you value your speakers, don't play track 1! Most modern CD-ROM drives can also play audio CDs, so computer users get the best of both worlds. And don't worry about compatibility. Your CD-ROM drive - Mac, PC or Atari will simply recognise compatible files and allow you to open only those files.

MAC SOFTWARE

Yamaha ProMix 01 Demo
Lots of things to see and hear in this product demo, which actually works with the ProMix 01 (if you have one, that is). Plus the Yamaha ProMix 01 environment for Notator Logic

Glass
20 second QuickTime movie downloaded fom Pipe, which is Hex/Coldcut's WWW site.

Sound Morph Samples
A collection of odd noises to demonstrate how much fun it is to physically morph sounds together. These can be played directly from the desktop (by clicking on them), or loaded into any sample editor.

Sound Effects
A pretty nifty shareware sample editor that adds effects to your samples. Works with IFF and RAW sample data.

PC SOFTWARE

Yamaha ProMix 01 Demo

Demo plus environment for Notator Logic

Jazz Guitarist
A demo version of PG Music's twangy MIDI file library program. Click on the GO.EXE program to automatically install the program on to your hard disk.

Samples
A collection of samples in WAV format. Use them as system sounds, or load them into any compatible program to manipulate.

Virtual keyboard
Play the PC's soundcard without actually having a keyboard attatched with this handy accessory.

Drum editor
Create yourself some interesting drum patterns and then dance about ridiculously (if you want to).

ATARI SOFTWARE

Octalyser
The Public Domain version of this eight track sample sequencer program.

Samples
Some twenty-nine samples in SPL and AVR format to mess around with.

MIX IT!
Re:Mix intro Music

3

Dan dares as his diaspora disintegrates and he takes time out to introduce this months selection.

4

JOOLS HOLLAND: RIVER BOOGIE WOOGIE'
Drift away down a lazy river with fools' interpretation of this traditional tune.

5

SOLAR ENEMY: 'CHROME ETERNAL'
Portion Control were one of the most influential of early industrial bands. Now reallocated as Solar Enemy they continue to make the industrial music everyone else copies. Listen to this track from their new album, exclusively remixed for the mix and hear the evidence for yourself.

6

TEMPLE OF DREAMS: 'RETURN TO FOREVER'
Storming acid techno from Psychedelic Trance Volume II as Temple of Dreams entrance you with this stunning remix for the mix.

7

Daring Dan and his double dipthongs introduce this months set of tutorials.

8

Bob Dormon devotes his attention to effects this month as he leads us through all of those weird and wonderful patches on that multieffects unit.

9

11

The second kit for On the Beat.

12

36

It's welcome, hello and nearly goodbye as Dan introduces this months selection of reader demos.

37

BLUE 101: 'ANGRY MAN'
Ambient dub is the flavour of the month but not many people get it right. Blue 101 certainly know their stuff though, and this is an exclusive remix of a stunning track from a debut album that deserves more attention.

38

I-SENSE: 'GREEN'
Ethnic ambient excursions from I-Sense. This is cool chill out music that makes sense out of sensibility.

39

And so its goodbye from Dan and its goodbye from all of us for another month. Sniff.
