Article from Home & Studio Recording, September 1986 |
By the time that you read this, the British Music Fair will have been and gone, and next month we will naturally be bringing you a run-down on what impressed us most.
In this month's issue we see that recording is no longer confined to tape recorders, as the increasing popularity of MIDI sequencers attests. Also, sampling can be construed as being a form of recording, (albeit short term), and the Akai model reviewed in this issue is a fair measure of the state-of-the-art, at the more affordable end of the market.
However, video is a far more obvious kind of recording, and one that perhaps we have tended to neglect in the past. You will have noticed that we have introduced a regular video column by Alan Hoida of the BBC. Moreover, it transpires that several of our readers are primarily interested in audio/visual work of one sort or another and that they read H&SR to keep up to date with the audio side. We would appreciate comments from any readers interested in this field as Alan has foolishly suggested that he might find the time to do a readers' videos page.
Finally, we are still receiving the odd contribution in response to the 'Forum' idea that we proffered a few issues back; however, the response hasn't as yet been strong enough to constitute a regular feature. I can't believe that you're all too mean to share your good ideas, so write in and let's have it, whether it's a new sound effect or a way to clear barnacles off a Revox capstan, we want to know!
