We think it's got something to do with the Beyerdynamic delegation at Frankfurt in which case it's a bit late but it could be something to do with inter-continental ballistic missiles so writen sie bloody schnell, bitte.
Tony Oates, Managing Director of Shuttlesound has fought off competition from Arsenal, Manchester United and Tring to secure the transfer of aging whizzkid Chris Gilbert from Shure/HW International where he has been working since 1965.
Feeling that he had gone as far as he could with HW International, Chris made the difficult decision to move feeling that Shuttlesound will give him the opportunity to apply his experience further.
For those of you who have been bitten by the bug of sampling, the phenomenon that enables you to reproduce the sound of a yak farting at the touch of a button, there are two new sampling keyboards from Roland. The S-10 and the S-50 are the first full-specification samplers Roland have produced.
The S-50 is a sixteen-voice, five-octave keyboard sampler with sixteen wave oscillators, sixteen Voice Controlled Filters, sixteen amplifiers, sixteen Low Frequency Oscillators and forty-eight envelope generators with eight parameters each.
With the optimum sampling rate set at 32kHz, audio frequency response ranges from 20Hz to 13Hz. Other features include a 512k word of Wave memory, a twelve-bit linear data format, sampling time up to 17.2 seconds at 32kHz, dual or split mode assignment and a built-in 3½" disc-drive. The keyboards can be split up into sixty-one different sounds and in Stack mode up to four different samples can be played by striking a single key.
The S-10 features the same sound generation design as the S-50 only in an eight-voice, four-octave configuration. All parameters are fully programmable in the Edit Mode. With a 128k word of memory in RAM (Random Access Memory) and a twelve-bit linear data format, the S-10 provides a sampling time of up to four seconds.
Both units feature MIDI In, Out and Thru and the probable prices will be about £1000 for the S-10 and under £3000 for the S-50.
More from Roland after Frankfurt.

Avoiding the obvious 'small dog' jokes (what's the difference between a stall-holder and a Dachshund? One bawls out his wares) we move on to the seldom-discussed subject of sub-woofers.
TOA Electronics have launched anew range of sophisticated subwoofer systems - the SEB, SBD and SLB, which are designed to compliment their SE, SD and SL speakers. The SEB and SDB are rated at 360 watts of program power capacity.
Their 19" rackmountable cousin, the D4, is a 4-input stereo mixer which can combine with the D-4E, a matching 6-input mixer, to provide a 10-input mixer.
Finally from TOA, a major price reduction on their wireless guitar system 'WANDERER'. For those of you who dream of clambering all over the auditorium-Bono style, abseiling from the balcony and exchanging meaningful handshakes with each member of the audience while still playing, the dream can now be realised for £350 instead of the previous £587, bringing it from the realms of the very rich to the realms of the rich.
It comprises a light-weight transmitter (WM-330) which has up to 30 hours of continuous battery life and will fit into a pocket or clip onto a belt, together with a single channel receiver (WT-730) with a battery clock, RF level indicator and headphone monitor, and the facility to connect to AUX or MIC terminals of an amplifier.
For those of you who are seriously considering joining the ranks of the Home-recording hordes AND live in the Addlestone or Oxford area then you'll be over the moon (Brian) to hear that ABC Music are setting up demonstration studios in these branches where you can go and try out all the latest home recording equipment together with the ancillary gear that goes with them, plus a wide range of keyboards, sequencers and drum machines with emphasis on the latest sampling techniques.
The whole scheme is being set up under the technical supervision of producer, singer, song-writer and arranger, Chris West who says, "I think there's an enormous potential for the Pro-Shop conception in this area. You have to go miles to get anywhere near the kind of specialised approach we aim to establish right here in Addlestone and Oxford." This, of course, prompts the immediate response that most of us have to go miles to get anywhere near Addlestone or Oxford, but those who do make the trip will be able to see and hear the equipment in which they're interested as it is demonstrated in ideal surroundings and they'll get individual attention to their own specific requirements.
If the idea lights your fire, get, get, get on down to ABC Music at (Contact Details) or (Contact Details) and if you want any further information contact Kim Joseph, Esher on (Contact Details) or Chris West, Weybridge on (Contact Details)
