DAT is a great medium, but its very compact nature can be a problem when it comes to storage. The idea of supplying DAT tapes in sensible library cases is not new, but 3M are currently making their dual library case available as a separate item at the very attractive price of 99p. Their case is designed to hold two boxed DAT tapes and comes complete with case label, track card and a set of DAT labels conforming to APRS recommendations.

Like the rather nifty packaging 3M are using for their open-reel tapes, the DAT library case is made from a tough, recyclable plastic which has an integral sealing system to keep out dust and moisture, while a simple slide-latch locks the box. In appearance, the case has the macho look of a Chernobyl shift-worker's lunch-box. An ingenious design feature is a moulded recess which locates on an optional, low-cost hanger rail that, when screwed to a wall, makes a convenient storage system.
