Article from International Musician & Recording World, May 1986

The pace of new technology in the field of musical instruments has never been faster than it is today; increasingly, succeeding as a musician has as much to do with your awareness of the tools available as it does with your own skill as a player — after all, even folk guitarists go into the studio sometimes.

Musicians need to be kept informed — and it is for this reason that IM&RW has always made review coverage the cornerstone of its own success. For us, there are no short-cuts, no skimpy 'pre-views.' Products reviewed in IM&RW are put through the wringer: recording equipment is installed in a 16 track studio; drum kits are played on Kinks recording sessions; amps and guitars are used in band rehearsals and gigs.

And when our team have finished — it's your turn. Because at IM&RW we aim to review gear as it becomes available — not when it's just a twinkle in a manufacturer's eye.

And while you're at it — check out the opinions of the professionals. Our interviews cover successful, working musicians from every corner of the biz; not just the trendiest, not just the flashiest, but anyone who's got something interesting to say about making music. The equipment they use — and why they use it. The way they write — and why they do it. We find out, every month. And back it up with regular items on production, home recording, electronics and computers; features on everything from starting your own label to the mysteries of brass arrangement.

Just a few of the reasons why IM&RW is still the top magazine for musicians. Accept no substitute.
