TP gets slice of Sushi action

Theatre Projects added a touch of glamour to the launch night of the world's largest conveyor belt sushi bar by providing Hollywood-style lighting for the stars attending the opening party.

Theatre Projects equipped the Soho venue with SkyTrackers and Irideon AR500 luminaires. An interesting twist was provided by the fact that the restaurant owner was none other than Simon Woodroffe brother of our industry's own talented LD, Patrick.

In a high-tech multimedia environment, the very latest Japanese food technology now brings affordable sushi to Londoners. YO! Sushi! provides an unusual environment, including a 60 metre long conveyor belt exhibiting a range of colour price coded plates of classic, vegetarian, and gourmet sushi made by humans alongside the world's most advanced rice robots on show! Lit by the new Irideon AR5 architectural luminaires, customers will sit at a bar or booths surrounded by the latest Sony wide screen televisions broadcasting sushi in the making, daily menus, and if all goes according to plan, live news from Japan. While robots and robotics are widely in evidence, friendly human servers will also be at hand.

I don't profess to be the greatest living lighting expert so I have no qualms in admitting real surprise when I first saw the big 'movie premiere' searchlights close up. When I saw the lights mechanically searching the smog via gears and a diesel motor, and not manually managed by a becapped 30s character by the name of Chip or Chuckie, it crushed one of the last romantic images of the movies that I had.
