Re:Mix

mixed-mode CD tracklist

Article from The Mix, April 1995

The words behind the sounds on this month's CD and CD-ROM

About re:mix

RE:MIX combines normal CD audio with software readable by a computer's or sampler's CD-ROM drive. The software will not harm your CD player, but it may make an unpleasant sound. So if you value your speakers, don't play track 1! Most modern CD-ROM drives can also play audio CDs. so computer users get the best of both worlds. And don't worry about compatibility. Your CD-ROM drive – Mac, PC or Atari will simply recognise compatible files and allow you to open only those files.

ATARI SOFTWARE

Samples
Over half a megabyte of percussion samples, and various other bits and bobs.

Idle Screensaver
Rather than wearing out your monitor with the same sequencer screens all the time, watch this cute Fuji animation instead. Copy the IDLE.ACC to the root directory of your boot disk (or wherever you keep your accessories) to run it.

MIDI files
Roger's tinklings in the Dream Sequences tutorial, plus a collection of jungle breakbeats to bounce around to.

PD and Shareware Box
A miscellaneous collection of PD from the internet, including an index program, and one specifically for the Falcon. The files are 'ZIPped', but we've also provided a copy of ST Zip to decompress them.

PC SOFTWARE

For an installation guide to PC programs, see Toolbox starting on page 96

New Orleans Pianist
Get cosy with a stiff gin and a packet of dominoes, with the New Orleans version of the Pianist software from PG Music.

Jazz Pianist
And then there's the jazz version...

Scope
Make sure you're not clipping your waveforms with this useful sampling accessory.

Samples
Excerpts from the Time & Space Datafile CD-ROMs in WAV format

MIDIBook
Tired of getting tangled up in MIDI problems? Try out MFH's friendly MIDIbook; a guide to how to keep your shirt on.

MIDI files
Oh look, it's more of those Roger-files and the drum loops again.

Procyon Pro demo
A working demo version of this swizzy new sequencer from Evolution.

MAC SOFTWARE

J.S.Bach goes tango-crazy with Pianist

Pianist software demos
A couple of those lovely elevator music programs to mess around with.

Quick Movie and All MIDI shareware
Ian Waugh whips on his trunks and surfs the digital network. And this is what he came up with. Read the guide on how to use these programs in Toolbox.

MIDI files
Roger's files and the drum loops for those of you with a Mac computer.
