Michael Ivey, the sardonic brain behind DC Basehead's debauched funk, has launched his own label. 13 Records, according to Ivey, is "the new alternative record label that hopes to expand your mind and your ears without blowing anything up." Distributed by Rykodisc, the first release is BYOB, an eponymous debut much in the same vein as Basehead - in other words, scurrilously groovy and articulate playing, used as the backdrop to new agendas in black music. Don't miss.
