Chord of the Month

Guitar

Article from Making Music, July 1987

In fact we were gathered round the office hi-fi hunting for the edit on the Simple Minds live album (where it jumps from a French gig to an Australian gig, virtually between notes). "Hang on," we quoth, "thassa nice coupla chords." And indeed they are. This is what we think Charlie Burchill is playing, with loads of echo and a few picky notes in between, on the closing stages of 'Big Sleep'. Broken right down, they're just nice inversions of a major and a minor, but the secret is in the bass note. Listening to the album, we think Charlie is probably playing the top four strings, and leaving the bass to John Giblin. But with these fingerings here you can do the whole job yourself, oh efficient ones. Let the chords hang, and wobble your wang bar, if you've got one.
