Sparks in Air

AIR STUDIOS... Chopyn have been mixing and over dubbing with John Punter producing and engineering... The 20th Century Steel Band — winners of TV's New Faces — have been recording a single for UA with independent producer Alan David... German band Triumvirat have been mixing an album with Grammy Award winning Geoff Emerick engineering... Sparks spent a week recording a new single with Tony Visconti in the producer's chair... Bill Price engineering... Harmony band Design have been showing signs of going "heavy", laying tracks with producer John Punter...

CBS STUDIOS... Kenny came in with Phil Coulter producing, John Hudson engineering... Greengage were in with producer Tommy Scott and engineer Bernie O'Gorman... Sparrow were finishing an album with producer Chris White and engineer Mike Ross... Scott Fitzgerald (no relation) came in to record, with Doug Bogie engineering... The I.G's. came in with engineer Dick Palmer... The soundtrack for A Little Night Music was recorded for R.C.A. by producer Tom Shepherd and engineer Mike Ross... Domino came in to record a single with producer Nick Graham and engineer Bernie O'Gorman...

E.M.I. STUDIOS... Backing tracks for a new Olivia Newton-John album were laid down under the direction of John Farrar... The Simon Park Orchestra came in, as did New World... Steve Bent... Harry Stoneham...

I.B.C. STUDIOS... Barry Ryan was in cutting the foreign language version of a number of singles, with producer Bill Landis and engineer Mike Claydon... Peter Noone came in with producer Keith Potger, Hugh Jones engineering... Fresh Air cut a single for the Mervyn Conn Organisation... Su Shriffron was recording with producer Bruce Welch and engineer Mike Claydon...

ISLAND STUDIOS... Jim Capaldi came in to mix his new album with Chris Blackwell producing, Richard Digby-Smith engineering... Bryan Ferry was in with the mix of his new album, Chris Thomas producing, Phil Brown engineering... Eno came to record and produce an album with engineer Rhett Davis... Kevin Ayers was in with Muff Winwood producing... Barclay James Harvest recorded an album produced and engineered by Vic Smith...

ISLAND MOBILE STUDIO... Frank Owen was engineering Ken Russell's new film Liszt-omania at Shepperton Studios... Slade's recent gigs were recorded on the mobile unit... Paul Kossoff also made use of the studios...

KINGSWAY STUDIOS... Roger Glover has been in to produce Reflections for Purple Records, with engineer Louie Austin... John Holt cut an album for Trojan Music, with producer Tony Ashfield and engineer George Sloan... Kingsway Productions have had Liza Strike in, with Eddie Hardin and Louie Austin co-producing... Eddie Hardin was also recording a single...

LANSDOWNE STUDIOS... Uriah Heep are back, working on an album with producer Gerry Bron and engineer Peter Gallen... Mac and Katie Kassoon finished an album with producer Wayne Bickerton and engineer John Mackswith... John Carter came in to produce Magic, with Paul Holland engineering... Dick Baker, composer of the winning Eurovision Song Competition entry came in to produce some tracks with Su and Sunny, as well as Madeline Bell... Dave Clark came in with producer John Christie and engineer John Mackswith...

THE MANOR... Jade Warrior have occupied most of the month, John Fields and Tony Duhig producing, Mick Glossop engineering, with session appearances by Stevie Winwood, Graham Morgan and David Duhig... Tom Newman cut a single, producing himself with engineer Mick Glossop...

MARQUEE STUDIOS... Lesley Duncan came in with producer Jimmy Horowitz to finish off an album, Will Roper engineering... Lynsey De Paul was producing herself, with the help of engineer Geoff Claver... Gus Dudgeon put the finishing touches on Elton John's new album, assisted by engineer Phil Dunne...

THE MASTER ROOM... Kevin Coyne's new album was mastered in The Master Room... Other masters cut this last month include the new David Essex single... The Horslips album and single, with producer Fritz Fryer... The Seekers, cutting both U.K. and Australian masters with producer Keith Potger... The new Greenslade album, with Dave Lawson's supervision... A new album from Genesis, with John Burns engineering and coproducing... Ronnie Lane's new single...

PYE STUDIOS... Dr. Feelgood came in, produced and engineered by Vic Mayall... Sweet Sensation were in with producer Des Parsons... Jimmy Helms was in with a new album, produced by Wilf Pine and engineered by Terry Evenette... Twinkle came in with producer Micky Antony and engineer Larry Bartlett... Sandgate came in with engineer Terry Evenette...

RAMPORT STUDIOS... Procol Harum have been in recording an album with Leiber and Stoller producing, John Jansen engineering... Not surprisingly, The Who have had the lion's share of studio time this month, with Pete Townshend producing... Mike Storey was in, producing himself with engineer John Jansen... Gus Eaden came in to record with producer Martin Ford and engineer Cyrano...

R.E.L. (RADIO EDINBURGH STUDIOS)... Country Confusion came in to record an album... Archie McCulloch was in recording... John Wilson, a folk artist, was in cutting demos... Dillinger were in briefly to finish up some tracks...

SARM STUDIOS... Robert Godfrey came in to record an album with producer John Sinclair and engineer Gary Lyons... Snafu were in with Andrew Park of Radio Clyde... Roy Baker came in to produce Hustler, Gary Lyons engineering...

SCORPIO STUDIOS... A certain famous American Kung Fu exponent came in to record with Ian Samwell and engineer Dennis Weinreich... Prelude came in to record with Samwell and Weinreich... Ken Scott was in, both to finish the Gilly Lindsay album and to mix the soundtrack for a forthcoming Supertramp special on American TV... Scorpio are going to 24-track this spring or early summer, with the installation of a new Cadac 30 in, 24 out desk and a Telefunken 24-track machine... They should also be completely quadrophonic by mid-summer...

STRAWBERRY STUDIOS... The Bay City Rollers have been in recording the songs for their Granada television show... Crane (the ex-Mersey Beats) came in with producer Geoff Gill and engineer Pete Tattersall... Five Penny Piece were recording with producer Bob Barrett and engineer Pete Tattersall... Naviede came in to record with engineer Martin Lawrence...

TRIDENT STUDIOS... Raincoat came in with producer Steve Stevenson and engineer Mike Stone... Charley, produced by Mike Stone and engineered by Neil Kernon, were also in... Dwight Twilley was in recording an album with producer Robin Cable and engineer Ted Sharp...
